Christmas

My classes have finished, all the finishing projects have been delivered and even some new kits and special orders have been prepared for those optimistic people who hope they will have some stitching time over the holidays!

However I find it a wonderful time to try and catch up. 
The Spring Class programme is available, including two new courses - a two day Jacobean embroidery class and a Lettering class.  The  Lettering class is a repeat as it was such fun with everyone planning and working their own ideas.
 
Plans for the 2015 Italian trip are almost sorted, it will be June.  Like before the total cost will include everything except the travel to the closest Italian airport.  This means that people can join us from their own area and possibly add on side trips.  A stop over in London is good as is adding on Rome, Florence or the island of Sicily.  Do ask me if you need suggestions!

I am also finishing up some new designs;  I had the poche vide finished - a poche vide is an elegant name for a small tray where gentlemen can overnight their keys or change OR a lady
can lay her jewellery!    Am so in love with the bands of design I plan to do a boxed cushion will a central panel so more of the bands can be seen.

A talented quilter, Linda Seward, has her group, London Quilters exhibition at the Swiss Cottage Library, till the 4th January to celebrate her new book 'The Ultimate Guide to Art Quilting'.  Judging by their previous shows it should be most interesting

Needlepoint, your passport to a Magic Carpet

  It’s difficult to travel, impossible in some countries, many of us have a  fear of flying - come along with me on a magic carpet ride. For over more than 50 years I have always loved travelling to interesting destinations and seeing buildings, decorative architecture, exciting tiles or mosaic floors and, on my return, have used these memories as inspiration for my needlepoint designs.    Each design has a story, some beautiful and happy others less so.  In fact, in some cases, a terrible event has befallen the area shortly after we had left. However, as I stitch my mind wanders back – on my magic carpet – to the occasion, place and circumstances of when I first was intrigued by the scene.   However, one big regret is that I have not kept a ‘travel diary’ much to my dismay now, so while putting these memories together I have sometimes resorted to Wikipedia or Google for confirmation of some detail.    These sessions together have added to my knowledge and become part of my magic carp

Stitching in Italy

We have just returned from a break to Italy, too busy stitching to blog, sorry about that however I am longing to share the news with you now. We had our 8 th visit to Pirapora a family run Agro tourism place that grows all its own fruit and vegetables, even the wine we drink with dinner.    The location is perfect, pleasant shady gardens where we stitch, weather allowing, with stunning views of the sea. Everyone stitched their own design which added to interesting discussions and suggestions.    As before one outing to an interesting place was all I could encourage them to take – this year we went to a Roman/Norman site Catanzaro.    Our English speaking guide who with his knowledge adds a great deal to any of our trips and this time was no exception, we had a visit to an old olive press with the original machinery and an embroiderer’s work studio   and saw her working with the silks produced from the silk worms who enjoy the mulberry leaves grown in abundance in the area – we

Christmas Traditions

Each family has its own traditions linked to the festive season and even more so the many countries around the World. Australian, New Zealand and South America are enjoying high summer; in the Northern hemisphere it is winter and often dark and icy nights. Some countries celebrate Christmas Eve with a festive dinner and the opening of presents at midnight; others go to their church at midnight and keep the presents and the big meal till Christmas Day itself.   In the UK the preferred meal for a big family is Turkey with roast potatoes and sprouts followed by Christmas pudding with brandy butter or cream. Other countries enjoy oysters (France) or Carp (Germany).
